Needs of producers using integrated cropping and cattle systems

Five focus groups with 43 innovative producers were held in Lincoln, Norfolk, Holdrege, Broken Bow, and Scottsbluff. These producers were asked to discuss barriers, and research needs regarding integrated cow/calf and cropping systems.

Landfills Taking Animal Carcasses

The following is a list of landfills in Nebraska, because the amount of mortalities that can be accepted may be limited based on the amount and type of waste they are receiving at a given time these facilities should be contacted directly to determine if they will take carcasses. Hauling carcasses to a landfill by a licensed carrier/renderer in a sealed truck is typically required. However, this requirement has currently been waived as a result of the large scale disaster in March 2019. For more, information contact NDEQ Waste Management Section: (402) 471-4210.

Beef Feedlot Roundtables Offer Research, Industry Updates

Lincoln, Nebraska, Jan. 31, 2019 -- Research findings and industry updates will be the focus of the Nebraska Extension Beef Feedlot Roundtables Feb. 12-14.

Topics were selected to benefit feedlot managers, owners, employees, and those working in the allied industry. 

One issue facing all producers is the ability to attract and retain employees. Because this is the biggest issue facing our feedyards, Dr. Scott MacGregor was invited to offer some options for feedyards to enhance employee retention and management succession.
