Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center

Since its dedication in 1990, Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center has served as an information source for the beef industry.  With its primary focus in beef cattle production systems, it provides training of veterinary and graduate students, veterinary practitioners, beef producers and industry stakeholders. Specifically available are educational opportunities through clinical electives and professional training for veterinary students as well as continuing education events, including workshops, forums and outreach educational programs.

Bovine Congestive Heart Failure (BCHF) in Feedlot Cattle

Bovine congestive heart failure (BCHF) is increasingly recognized as an emerging condition of cattle in the Western Great Plains of the United States and Canada.  BCHF is an untreatable, fatal condition involving pulmonary hypertension that culminates in right ventricular failure.  BCHF outbreaks are occurring in operations feeding well-managed, high genetic merit cattle.

UNL Klosterman Feedlot Innovation Center

The UNL Klosterman Feedlot Innovation Center is under construction at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center near Mead, Nebraska. The $7.2 million facility will pave the way for world-class research projects and teaching and extension opportunities in a commercial-scale, state-of-the-art feedlot. In addition, the facility will serve as a one-of-a-kind testbed where industry partners can see how new and emerging technologies work.
