New Videos in the Dry Lotting and Confinement Beef Cow Management Series
April 2015
The majority of the Midwest and western states known for cattle production are currently listed as abnormally dry, if not in drought conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Most of this grass is still recovering from a severe drought between 2011 and 2013 which makes 2015 summer forage production a concern.
Producers interested in maintaining cows with limited forage supplies can view the latest videos in the Dry Lotting and Confinement Cow Series.
- Dr. Alfredo DiCostanzo of the University of Minnesota discusses various types of indoor confinement structures that can provide shade and protection during inclement weather.
- Dr. Vern Anderson, retired extension specialist from North Dakota State University discusses feeding cows in the Northern Great Plains with an ad libitum intake approach utilizing local feedstuffs and available production systems.
- Dr. Rick Rasby reviews management considerations, pricing feedstuffs and the economics of feeding beef cows in a dry lot situation.
