The 22nd annual University of Nebraska–Lincoln Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory (GSL) Open House will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. This year’s Open House will be a hybrid format with our traditional in-person event held at GSL along with being live streamed online webinar. The online webinar will only cover the morning sustainability topics.

The morning session starts off with Dr. Elliot Dennis, UNL Livestock Extension Marketing Specialist, with an update of current livestock markets.  Dr. Jason Sawyer, King Ranch Institute of Ranch Management, will discuss what sustainability means at the ranch level.  To continue with the sustainability topic, Leah Beyer from Elanco will discuss media’s influence on sustainability.  To wrap up the morning session, Brianna Buseman, UNL Youth Meats Extension Assistant Professor, will moderate a Q/A panel with local producers on their perspectives on direct marketing to consumers.

In the afternoon, Drs. Brian Vander Ley, Great Plains Veterinary Education Center, and Brett Terhaar, will discuss calfhood immunity and vaccination strategies.  In addition, the afternoon session will be wrapped up by range and beef research updates provided by research faculty from West Central Research and Extension Center and Panhandle Research and Extension Center.
