Beef Basics Home Study Course is a series of Home Study courses offered by the University of Nebraska
Cooperative Extension. Courses provide a more in-depth look at beef cattle production. The authors attempt to
help the participants understand all components of beef production and determine the management techniques and programs that match their production goals. The various lessons emphasize function of
the rumen, feed testing, use of by-products and alternative feeds, a "systems" perspective, understanding and
feeding minerals, application of NRC nutrition requirements, reproduction, animal breeding, and many others. Courses benefit producers, feed
consultants, veterinarians, and others interested in the beef production business.
