Frequently Asked Questions
I have a cow and her calf that have been separated by the fenceline for almost 6 weeks now. They were briefly together the other day and the calf was looking very interested in his mom's udder so I separated them again. If he were to try to nurse, could he stimulate mom to give milk again? He is about 6 mo. old now. I would like to put them back together in the herd.

Supplement for cows on winter range that calve March 1, 2009. BCS a pretty solid 5 to 5+ across the board. I am currently feeding 38% Protein, 2.25% fat cake at the rate of .75# per day every 3rd day. I plan to move to 1.5# per day every 3rd day at Jan 1. Have an opportunity on some 15% Protien; 7% Fat cake at $285/Ton. Paying $375/Ton for the 38%. I am not sure of the math to let me compare. The every 3rd day part on 38% works for us. I suspect the 15% will need to be fed more frequently.

My dad and I are trying to find ways to use ddgs in our cow calf operation. Our main reason is the increase cost of protien tubs. We want to feed the ddgs free choice to calves grazing stalks. Could it be cut with salt or another product to limit daily consumption?
