Frequently Asked Questions
What would be the maximum amount of beet tailings that could be included in a beef cow's diet. these tailings are clean and ground. The calves were weaned from the cows about two weeks ago. Other feeds can include baled corn stalks, hay, and corn silage. The tailings are cheap and I would like to conserve as much of the other feeds as possible. Feeding about 55 head.

I am interested in purchasing orphan calves and selling them after about 6-7 months of retaining them. What should I figure for feeding cost of gain per hundred weight? And how much grain and roughage should I have available for one calf?

I have access to 700 acres of tornado damaged corn. The owners tried to combine and were having too much trouble and damage to machines. They have settled with the insurance and it is mine to do with what I want. There is probably between 80-100 bushels an acre on the cob. My question is what is it worth to rent this ground and would somebody be interested in it? I have been told the cattle would founder on that much corn. What about strip grazing it? I figure there is enough there for at least a 1000 stockers for at least 100 days. The ground is located in very NW Missouri.

We just preg checked the cows in our herd and we felt we had too many open cows. Is there any way to prevent so many open cows? They are given salt and a good mineral all the time. All bulls are checked before being used.

I am wondering what are the main differences between Holstein steers and colored cattle for locker beef. Ex: meat quality, feed efficiency, quantity.

I'm from Australia (200kms from Brisbane) just going into kiling and butchering our own beef for sale at local farmer's markets. We are seeking to offer aged, stress-free at slaughter, free range beef. In preparing our small facility, we're wanting to capture the blood in drums on drip mats. My query is, what is the volume of blood drained from the different size cattle at slaughter?

Will the TDN% change between wet distillers and modified wet distillers? Assuming that the two products came from the same plant and batch. My feeds composition sheet shows 101% WDG and 99% DDGS. Nothing for MWDG.
