Some nutrition people have been inoculating the idea that ration for feedlot cattle needs to be minimum 60% dry matter to maximize performance. To attain somewhat these levels in the cost of ingredients will be higher leading to higher feed cost with not always maxinum animal performance. There always the issue of moisture coming from fermented feeds versus ingredient moisture. I would like to know if there are any studies showing at what moisture do we start to loose animal performance and effeciency?

I have heard that some people buy WDGS in the late summer when it is cheaper, and put it in silage bags. Does this work ok? Is WDGS enough cheaper in late summer to make this pay? Is there a problem with rodents or anything else with using silage bags? Does the WDGS keep well in the bags? Does the WDGS keep will as a person feeds out of the bags?

Have you heard of cattle (replacement heifers) refusing to eat BT corn and stubble? Heifers have been on corn stalks approximately two weeks with adequate salt, mineral, and water. They are grubbing down all the grass on the field margins and getting gaunt.

I am grazing cows on corn stubble and have just recently added permanent fencing around it. Is there a "best" pasture mix that could be thrown on this pasture (approx 8 acres) while being grazed this fall/winter that would take for the spring? Just trying to get a head start, without tilling.

We are thinking of planting our creek bottom pasture(~70 acres) in Milo so that we can use it for a Fee-Based game bird hunting outfit. After the bird season is over I would like to turn cows out on it, and not harvest it. Do you think this is OK?
