Frequently Asked Questions
I am getting ready to start feeding my cows. We are short on hay and pasture. If I feed 5 lb/hd/da ground corn with 1/2 pound of soybean meal pear head would that help save hay? I don't want to feed any cotton seed hulls. Does hay rings help save hay?

I am cutting milo now and this year it hasn't froze yet. My question is if I can pasture the stalks while they are still green or the risk involved in parturing green stalks. This crop has not been drought stressed at all and I applied any where from 40-60# of nitrogen with the planter.

We will graze irrigated cornstalks this year, at the rate of one 1400# cow per acre/month, with salt/mineral. What is the cheapest cost source to provide the rest of their needed diet? These are cows that will calve in March, and will be on these stalks until middle Feb. Also we were thinking of buying some last chance cows to graze, calve out,and sell as pairs in the spring. These cows might need to gain some weight. As in many areas this year, there is not as much corn on the ground as last year.We will watch condition closely, and possibly rotate cows to new stalks sooner.

We recently purchased some registered cattle with ear tags that had "N" after the number. We were told that designates the year the cow was born and that this year's calves were to be marked with a "T". So, where can I find a list of the years that correspond with the numbers?
