An ethanol plant is being built close to our farm. It is a dry grind plant. I want to know if I could mix alfalfa mixed hay with ddg's 50% to 50% to feed to calves. Or some other ratio. I buy 400 to 500 hundred # calves and feed them to finish.

I am custom feeding some cows, bred heifers, and replacement heifers, this winter for a neighbor. I have my own feed that I will be using and will charge accordingly. My question is how do I charge for the use of my facilities, equipment, care for cattle on stalks, and calving out the cows and management? Could you give me some average costs of doing this, how to charge, or refer me somewhere to find custom rates for all of this?

Do you have info on cow/calf pairs grazing cornstalks? Is there a ratio for # of head and how many days they can be left on a certain # of acres? Are cornstalks considered (Oct & Nov) lower quality forage?
