When buying milo how does it compare to corn? I have always heard that you shouldn't pay more than 80% of what corn is bringing. I am feeding holstein heifers - we are trying to cut cost.

We are feeding a ration that our heifers do really well on but it seems awfully dusty, some of them like it where as others pick through it. It includes molasses and soy oil to cut down on the dust but still seems too fine. If I sift out the fines for those that pick through it they eat it better. The ration includes soy hulls and I am wondering if through the grinding and mixing if the soy hulls are getting too fine. Could the soy hulls be replaced with soy pellets? Do the soy pellets have the same nutritional value as the soy hulls?

I am feeding out steers that I sell for freezer beef. I was using a ration of corn, free choice hay, and a 80% protein supplement fed at .5 lb hd/dy. I recently recieved 20 ton of corn gluten feed dryed down to 30% moisture. I am not sure what kind of ration to use now. The gluten only cost $320 and that included the transportation to my farm. With corn over $3.50 I want to use as much gluten as possible. I have heard many different opinions. Some say 50/50 corn/gluten. Others say I can't feed it the last 45 days to ensure they will grade choice. Some say I don't need to feed the supplement anymore, others do. I was also told that I could store this on the ground with just a little spoilage on top that I could mix in. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cow (Shorthorn) drops twins - one is a bull calf one is a heifer. Is it common for the heifer to have reproductive problems? I was told that this is a comon problem in dairy cattle, my cattle are not milking shorthorn.

I had a corn field that was zeroed out by the insurance so I could not pick the corn. There is still a lot of corn in terraces and in low spots of the field. There is 40 acres of corn that was not picked, there is also 20 acres of wheat, and 12 acres of alfalfa along with 5 acres of waterways. I have all this fenced off and have had 18 head of bred cows (calve March 15) on it for about 2 months. The cows are very very content, but they don't seem overly fat. There is a lot of corn coming through them. With the high corn diet will it be normal for the cows not to look fat? And also could too much corn abort the calves?

I have 17 preg. cows due to calve in feb. Is free choice feed bales, crystalix 27% tubs, and occasional range cubes adequate for them? I feed alfalfa once the calf is born. They look good but I'm always looking for advice.
