Because of the actions taken through various Quality Assurance programs, previous concerns about physical and chemical hazards originating on the farm have been addressed successfully. Now the concerns are increasingly about biological hazards. The consumers worry about mad-cow disease, antibiotic resistance, multi-drug resistant Salmonella, enterohemorrhagic E. coli (e.g. Escherichia coli O157:H7) and other food safety pathogens which ultimately affects demand for product and the producers bottom-line.
