Q: Was wondering if you can add magnesium to the drinking water to prevent grass tetany in beef cattle.
|
|
A: I am not aware of a prevention of grass tetany that can be delivered through the drinking water. Prevention is by using a mineral that contains magnesium oxide. MgO is not very palatable so they usually add something to entice them to eat the mineral. Mineral supplementation needs to begin 30 to 45 days before cattle are turned out to grass.
