Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   I have Angus mixed beef cows and heifers and bred to Angus bulls. If I sell all male and female offspring, what is the most profitable way to replace the females in my herd?

A:   The challenge with going outside your herd for replacements, is to find a consistant supply of females bred to fit the goals and resources of your operation. There are heifer developement facilities in many states that focus on developing and selling replacement heifers. If your idea is to buy older females as replacements, then herd health programs need to be carefully developed so that you don't bring health problems into your herd. There are producers that will package and sell pregnant mature cows and they will work closely with their customers with issues of concern.
