Q: We recently purchased some registered cattle with ear tags that had "N" after the number. We were told that designates the year the cow was born and that this year's calves were to be marked with a "T". So, where can I find a list of the years that correspond with the numbers?

A: Some breed associations have used a lettering system to denote birth year. N denotes birth year of 2003. You are correct that T denotes birth year of 2007. When using the lettering system to denote birth year, I, O, Q, and Z are never used. There is a nice reference at the following web address. here
