Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   I am preparing a report and was wondering if you could advise me on statistics regarding the % of corn grown in Nebraska that is used for cattle. Any references you might recommend?

A:   Estimates that I'm familar with would indicate that beef and dairy cattle in Nebraska consume between 250-260 million bushels of corn. We produce around 1,200 million bushels. So, cattle in state consume approximately 20%, or one-fifth, of the state's production. The state typically exports between 400-500 million bushels of corn--much of this would be consumed by cattle. PRX is an independent consultant that generates this type of information. I unfortunately don't have their contact information.
