• Body condition score all females.

• Separate 1st & 2nd calf heifers from cows (oldor thin cows may be included with heifers).

• Test feeds for quality (protein, energy (TDN), and moisture) that will be used in the winter feeding program.

• Feed alfalfa hay as a supplement to range, stalks or stubble when most nutritious part is consumed or when snow covers ground.

• Start heifers on balanced ration designed for last 1/3 of pregnancy.
